Glass layers are coated on steel, and being heated to ~800+¡æ to have a strong bond to steel; the glass layer with SiO2 rich (~40%) is a very strong chemical resistant layer that could resist aggressive mineral acids such as 20 % HCl (Hydrochloric Acid), 98 % H2SO4 (Sulfuric Acid), 85 % H3PO4 (Phosphoric Acid), 90 % ClCH2COOH (Chloroacetic Acid) and etc. The unique chemical resistivity of the glass coated steel tank is not just useful for storage of potable water, it is also useful for storage of many other corrosive materials such as acids and alkalines.

Other than high chemical resistance, the glass layer is an excellent inorganic layer for corrosion resistance, and abrasion resistance. The smooth finishing surface of the glass layer ensures minimal friction loss in the flow. Glass Fused to Steel tank is especially useful for wastewater that contains high Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and high viscosity due to its smooth finishing surface.

One may observe that over years glass coated surface is still as smooth as newly installed, and does not chalk, fade or discolour, a community can expect the appearance of their tank to remain for years into the future. While other painted tank coatings erode, rust and fade away over time, the glass coating will continue to hold its curb appeal.

Erection of bolted tanks consumes much lesser time compared to other tanks. Bolted Storage Tank is like a Lego – it is built from prefabricated panels and joint with hot dip galvanised bolts and nuts and sealed with sealants. The hot dip galvanised bolts and nuts will prevent galvanic corrosion occur in the storage tank; and the sealant is NSF-61 certified, in which it is safe for drinking water use.
Erection of bolted tanks requires minimal level of confined space as the bolted storage tanks are erected by jacking systems (compared to reinforced concrete tanks with scaffolding structures that requires much larger space during construction). Requiring lesser space (especially confined space) would reduce safety risks, hence reduce installation time.

In conclusion, the benefits of the high chemical resisitivity glass coating, fine surface finishing with high abrasion resistivity, and conveniences in installation ensure the Glass Fused to Steel Storage Tanks to be a popular choice over other types of tanks!
